Earlier we wrote about our experience with the 12 inch Dyson Air Multiplier, which is a blade-less table top fan which, like any table top fan, will make you feel cooler so you dont have to run the air conditioner as much in the summer and save money through lower electricity costs (it costs less money to run a central air conditioner to cool the entire house than a fan to keep you feeling cooler in the one room you are using).
It typically retails for around $400 and is currently (as of the date this article was written) on sale for $300.
It looks cool (sorry about the pun ) yet is incredibly expensive and does not do the job for me:
- it is not silent; in fact it was just as noisy as any other table top fan I have used
- its air flow could not be felt 5 feet away
Yet, some people must like it; perhaps because it is high tech.
Simple Cheap Fans Still The Best Option
The late summer is a great time of year to buy an electric fan because they are usually on their end of season sale.
After I returned the Dyson Air Multiplier, I noticed this Hampton Bay table top electric fan was on sale from $15 to $13 at The Home Depot:
So, with the Hampton Bay electric fan costing 95% less than the sale price of the Dyson Air Multiplier, yes that is right 95% less than the new tech gadget, I had to give it a try.
Assembly Required
Compared to the Dyson Air Multiplier which has only two components to put together, the Hampton Bay electric fan has several.
In all, it took me about 15 minutes from the time I opened the box to completion of the assembly.
I did struggle a little putting the front grill into place as the last step of the installation.
Yet, the assembly is a one time activity.
With the $13 electric table top fan now assembled, the question was how much poorly would it operate compared to the Dyson Air Multiplier.
