Sony Bravia LCD HDTV

February 24th, 2012 by Spencer Beor

Well, the bulb has gone now for the third time on our 8 year old Hitachi rear-projection LCD Television.

I contacted the Future Shop where we made the purchase and they told me that Hitachi stopped making televisions more than 2 years ago. Who knew?

So, I went on the Internet to locate a replacement bulb and it was $345 plus taxes and shipping.

Yikes! For an 8 year old TV? Sigh.

So, I headed down to our local Best Buy as they were having a sale on TVs (then again, when are they or any other electronics retailer not having a sale on TVs, right?).

The sale at Best Buy was on the Sony Bravia 46 inch LCD TV.

When I went to the store I found out that what was on sale was with 60 Hz 46 inch model.

They had a Samsung LCD TV on display with the right side 60 Hz and the left side 120 Hz.

crafters delight: fabric by the yard on amazon

February 23rd, 2012 by Liam Sowden

After painting our master bedroom a warm gray and adding white crown moulding, I started the hunt for window treatments. Roman shades were out because of the window depth, as were any treatments that left the top edge exposed. I went through all the usual online sources and failed to find anything hubs and I could agree on. So on to DIY. I must have looked at hundreds of fabric samples before stumbling onto a link that took me to Amazon. For fabric by the yard. Who knew? The prices are great, the search as intuitive as finding anything else on the site and the shipping nominal.

Preparing and Priming Different Exterior Substrates for Painting

February 18th, 2012 by Spencer Beor

Exterior walls come in many different materials. Preparing and priming each exterior surface correctly will achieve long-term protection for your home and drastically increase the service life of any paint job.

On stucco areas you want to thoroughly scrape off any loose paint and repair all cracks and holes. To fill gaps around windows and door casings use a caulk or elastomer-based patch to fill the cracks. (Elastomer is a polymer with property of high elasticity. The term comes from elastic polymer.)

If you are working with previously painted exterior stucco you want to use a good exterior primer or surface conditioner.

A reaction may occur if the new stucco is not allowed to properly cure.

Colorful Chair Anyone?

February 15th, 2012 by Liam Sowden

It’s January. The holidays are over and the end of winter is so far down the tunnel, it’s hard to see the light. What better way to brighten up a day than with some vibrant hand-painted furniture? While you couldn’t have pieces like this chair everywhere in a home, having one as an accent might be perfect. It’s the kind of idea I look at and think I could do that … and then reality sets in and I realize I should just contact an expert like Lisa Frick. Frick, who sells her goods on Etsy, paints tables, chairs and everything in between. Check it out.
